Back to Paris - Saturday 12 to Monday 14 May
Back toParis for more sightseeing including Montmartre and stunning views inside and out from Sacre Couer.
Oradour-Sur-Glane - Wednesday 9 - Saturday 12 May
Last update we were in Bellac in Central France enjoying our last few days in Elizabeth and Phil's bewdiful house where we slowed down a bit to recover from colds we caught in the chilly parts of the UK. The sunshine, food, wine and relaxed lifestyle certainly did the trick and we got better quickly:). We drove to Oradour sur Glane the village where over 600 men, women and children were massacred and the village burnt by the Waffen SS in 1944. The burnt out remains of the whole village are preserved with a historical museum alongside as a reminder of the horrors of the war and a new town has been built next door.
We head back to Paris shortly. Hope all is well.

Bellac, France with Family - Friday 4 to Tuesday 8 May

Up at 'sparrow...' and train to Limoges to meet the girls and Andrew. Alas, Alex couldn't come because his passport is still with the UK Border Agency awaiting an extension :(
Hired a car and met them at Limoges airport for hugs all round and off to Bellac on the right hand side of the road in a manual drive aaagh! We survived the trip and Bellac is like a place in a French movie (Nikki suggested Chocolat and Amelie as comparisons). Elizabeth and Phil's house is beautiful and in great shape and the girls are in awe!
We met next door neighbour Rosa and I explained that we're friends of from Oz and our French is limited. Introduced ourselves in basic French: 'Je m'apelle Alain.....' etc, smiled a lot and so did Rosa :). She's a nice lady.
It's a bit overcast and cool at the moment but we walked down to the 'Notre Dame de Bellac' and saw some other wonderful homes and buildings. The young children in the street think we're a bit novel and funny because we smile and don't understand them but we'll work on that :)
We dined well on wonderful french cuisine. Driving is challenging but we're slowly getting there. We're so lucky to be here.
Sadly time has flown, Lyn and I have colds which we've traded since London and the girls and Andrew fly back to London tomorrow so we'd better get out and get some fresh air. Jusqu'alors

Bruges, Belgium to Paris, France - Wednesday 2 to Thursday 3 May
Bruges to Paris by a very quick train. Then stayed in a nice hotel near the Bastille with a very small lift (150 kg limit!) so many trips to get luggage and us to 4th floor! Walking tour of Paris landmarks on the right bank from the Opera house has whet the appetite for more of Paris - maybe next trip? Saw exhibition of Bob Dylan (1961 to 1966) at Musee de la Musique - magnifique! Visited Notre Dame and saw communion.
We're not religious but it's a spiritual place and we lit a candle and thought about our sick family members and friends.

In Bruges... Monday 30 to Wednesday 2 May
Good sunshine, brief rain. Bus and boat tours around this medieval, canal surrounded city. More opulent, magnificent buildings, dozens of garlic mussels in a pot, superb beers, praline ice cream and waffles - how good does it get? Great city, food and friendly locals. PS: a street artist from Belarus did a quick silhouette of my head using scissors and black paper. He did it without my knowledge and offered it to me for 5 euros. I was stunned because it was so good he even included the chins and bulge at the back of my neck so we bought one each. Note to self: better cut down on the food portions :)
